Default dash jack for ipods

If you are running your ipod to an amp or down to your head unit - here's a clean looking surface mounit for your dash for the minijack output of an ipod - got it at boaters world - thanks to reef tank for showing it to me...doa search for "minijack" - it's 20 bucks and replaces a 12 volt socket perfectly.

Glen, Ive seen those and they are slick, BUT if it were me I would dream up something to plug the female jack for times when the iPOD isnt plugged in just in case it gets splashed or just to keep salty air out since it doesnt seem to be marinized. Just a thought..

dunno - might be marinized - it's a "seaworthy" product sold for poly planar stereos....

but no matter...I'll just cut the jack off one of the thousand pair of cheap headphones I have and stick it in there when I'm not using it....done! Did the same thing on my box speakers that mount on my dash - when the are not hooked up the quick disconnects are connected to a pair of cut off female parts of the same type disconnects...

Although I find jamming some dielectric grease in the hole every month or so protects most everything onthe boat...

would you be so kind as to detail what all is required to put an ipod on the boat...what would i need as far as speakers, head unit/amp, etc? just basic stuff. can you hook the speakers right up to the ipod?

i would like to mount/install everything except the speakers under my console; speakers under my t-top

thanks!

Many of the newer non marine head units come with the aux jack already built in.

If you are in the market, look for that feature and keep from drilling an additional hole.

The FM transmitter is also a viable option, but they seem to pick up interference in the city.

Okay, the one I saw was from another company. If it's from SeaSense it should be marinized to some degree and be okay...........

eric - this is for people who do not want any head unit at all or have their head unit down below and just want the wired remote and the input jack up top. If you have a clean sheet of paper this is the way you wanna go: amp and head unit down below...

Nice piece! I wish I had found it when I was wiring. I ended up putting an Audio plug to male ministereo plug lead into my head unit and just leave the mini jack (and cord) in my electronics box. So, I just plug the ipod in and leave it in the box. best thing ever - I never turn on the radio anymore. I actually created fishing, cruising, and sunning playlists. This would look a little more professional though. Thanks for sharing it.

Its called the Seaworthy Sea Mini. It comes with a rubber plug sort of tethered to the base for waterproofing the jack when the ipod isnt plugged in. Its just not shown in the pic.
