Default Lowrance. They Get It. Yeah right.

We are eager to receive your comments and answer your questions! However we are not seeking, nor can we accept, unsolicited ideas or suggestions relating to the development, design, manufacture or marketing of our products.

That's straight from Lowrance's web site.

I was installing a 3500 GlobalMap to replace my Furuno GP-31. The Furuno has 25 ft of cable off the mushroom ant. to a NMEA standard removeable connection. Pull off the connection and you're routing cable smaller in dia. than a #2 pencil.

The Lowrance has permanent connectors the size of a nickel. That's one big hole. To top that, the cable that comes off the ant. is only about a ten inch long pigtail to a connector. In a lot of applications, that connection will be exposed to the weather. Two very bad designs.

I called customer/tech. service to asked a question and voice a complaint about the cable/connector design. The nice lady suggested that I go on their web site and make a written suggestion. That when a found the statement above.

So much for understanding customer relations. Last Lowrance product that I purchace.

If you cant handle a little obstacle how will you ever handle the screen going out on you?

I cut the connectors off of mine and spliced the 2 together permanently when I mounted it.

I've had only wonderful experiences with Lowrance. I do find their connectors are on the large size, but I also find that the connectors used are very positive and there is no doubt when they make the final locking click that the connector is fully locked in place.

Boy, Lowrance is taking it on the chin today !!!!!! Rick, I have the same 10 pig tail that you mention but my antenna is mounted on top of the unit so its plenty long enough for my use. Contrary to popular belief the cables can be spliced and will work quite well if done properly. Lowrance wouldnt allow you to swap it for a unit with a longer cable?????

They are protecting their patent rights for products that they are curently working on. Someone could sue them if they supposedly use a customer's idea. I am in a similar situatiion with my business and I have to be very carefull with folks offering advise... over the years I have had several request to look at a new idea or concept in my field and many times we had similar projects in the works...we refuse to look at them to protect our patent rights.

I've used Lowrance and found their support people to be very helpful.

My $0.02 worth..

That makes sense. The way I look at it, the more people dump on Lowrance, the faster my service will be...... if that can happen.
