Default Internal or External GPS antenna?

I'm looking at a Garmin 178C; Does one pick up better or faster than the other? I don't really have any obstructions to the dash.

They will pick up just the same if you do not have anything real solid above it.

Great. Have you guys used it with your Yamaha speedometer or Fuel management? How well does it work?

Unless the user (or other persons) is standing well back from the unit (dash mounted with internal antenna) then they are very obstructive to the signal.

An external antenna is always going to be the better more reliable option.

Cheers, Kerry.

I've got mine with the internal antenna on the dash of a 21' Center Console (Wellcraft 210F), usually under a Bimini Top. It has worked perfectly. I have no complaints, and having to mount the external antenna would have been a pain...and ugly.
