Default C120 PROBLEM

i have a brand new c120 that shows me a "no fix" at start up. i checked the antenna, no problem, i checked the antenna connection to the back of the unit, no problem. it wasn't until i pulled the power plug out of the back of the unit and put it back that it finnally aquired a fix. the second time it did this to me i had to unplug and plug about 25 times before it gave me a fix signal.

i dont understand if the unit has power why wont it try to aquire a position.

risking sounding stupid, but, why would the power connection have anything to do with the unit trying to aquire a position?

The first thing is that the C120 does not acquire a "fix". It is only a display/power source. The C120 only acts as a console for the GPS receiver, which is actually in the Raystar 120 that is connected via the Seatalk interface. If you are failing to "get a fix", then there could be wiring problems between the Raystar 120 and the C120 or Raystar 120 is defective. How did you check the antenna (actually the antenna/receiver)? To answer your question as to why power connection has anything to do with acquiring a fix is that the Raystar 120 is powered from the C120 and everytime you powered-cycled the C120, the Raystar 120 also was power-cycled. I would bet the Raystar 120 is defective or has a pinched/cut cable.

If you go into GPS status there is a "restart GPS" soft key you can press. Also, what are your lights doing, amber, red or green on the LED. Is this a Ray 125 or 120?

It sounds like you need to have the 120 GPS antenna looked at. I'd send it back to Raymarine for service.

The reason it seems to work when you play with the power plug, is that you are basically resetting the 120 by removing the power and then re-powering it.

I would call Raymarine Tech support. They have always provided good service. Is there anything else hooked up via seatalk; auto pilot and such. I had a voltage issue and had to run a seperate line to provide additional power because I had a drain with the pilot and Ray 125. It all works now.
