Default Vendors, little help........Garmin 198c vs 3005c??

You have probably seen the posts about the problems with the 198c. Since I like the Garmin product and it doesn't look like the problems with the 198c will be fixed anytime soon; I need to find a replacement.

I know I will need the GSD20 "Black Box" to have a sonar with the 3005c but what else am I missing?

Anyone have any problems with the 3005c? How do you like it?

Any vendors want to give me a price for the 3005c, GSD20, and transom mount 200/50 transducer.

Thank You,
Bill

Your trying to compare a sports car to a sedan !!!

The 3005C is in a different class ..remember a chip is also needed ...

good Luck ...

John, it is a stripped down 3006C, I would hardly call it a sports car. Its an affordable 3 series plotter from Garmin. IT doesnt have the numerical keypad, duel chip capability or video inputs the 3006C or 3010C have... I guess if you drive a YUGO its a sports car..

What chip will I need? I do most of my boating in the Wildwood / Cape May NJ area. Is the chip needed for the more detailed maps?

Also, whats the cost?

Thanks,
Bill

The chip is what gives you more detail for the region you pick. It gives you contours, rigs, wrecks, ports, tides, etc..

The Blue chart CD, programmer and chip make for a better package. This will allow you to view your charts on your home computer, download waypoints and upgrade your software from your home computer. Yes, it is more but is nice to have.
