Default Garmin Radar (Open Array?)

I read on a local fishing (NY) site that Garimn is working on an open array radar. I have the 3010C and I'm looking to add on this option. However, if something is coming out I would rather wait and see....
Does anyone have any insite? Nothing was mentioned on Garmin's site.

Don't know about an open array but the 28" dome for the 2kw and 4Kw (I have the 4kw) versions is big enough!

This is my first radar unit (I also have the full Garmin network with the 3010C as the anchor) but it works great. Picks-up the boats and other structures (nav aids, land etc) quickly and with good detail without a lot of tuning. I have not tried to find birds yet.

Good luck.

What size boat are you running? We have the GMR 40 and it works great. We have a 28' downeast. The GMR 40 sits on a 10" power tower on the roof. Works great. The radar can only see to the horizon anyway which is typically about 16 - 20 miles. What do you need an open array for? Steve

I was curious more than anything else. My Top is 10' off the surface so the 4KW will be more than enough. I do like a little more power when runnin' and gunnin' for Bluefin.(Fool-owing birds). Thanks for the review and response.

The open array gives you better definition for small objects like small tuna birds to prevent you from running miles to just reach some buzzards.
