furuno 582 L temp reading

Default furuno 582 L temp reading

I was wondering if anybody can help me with this ? I have a Furuno 582L and the temp reading on the screen is about 40 degrees off, it was working fine untile the other day and now it showing a temp of 94-99 degrees when it should be reading about 60. It is a thrue hull transducer. Thanks Salmon

Try removing & reinstalling the T/D plug at the back of the set & also make very sure nothing in the bilge( stored fender,etc.) is resting against the cable at the top of the T/D & that that cable does not take severe bends anywhere from T/D to F/F. If you have a typical (Airmar# B744 )Thru hull T/D, the center insert that senses & sends speed & temp is very easily replaced in the water inside the boat & the main T/D shaft it would be pulled out of even has an internal flap that temp. seals more or less the hole the insert comes out of during a quick changeover. No re-cabling involved at all. The Airmar site has a diagram of this.
