My Raython V 850 doesn't reed speed. I don't know the triducer model. The machine works both for temp and sonar (200 and 50 KHZ). It has one coax looking cable going from the triducer to the V 850. The paddle wheel is new and the cupped side faces the bow and spins freely. It will not read speed out of the water with someone spinning the wheel. Do I need a new triducer?

it very well could be that they are not spinning it nearly fast enough to show it moving ...
Have you tried it on the water?...

I have tried it in water, no joy at any speed up to 31 kts on GPS. We spun the wheel out of the water to make sure it worked. I think the guy was spinning it pretty fast. Thaks John.

Try spinning it faster like John suggested. If it doesn't work, it's not a big loss. They are not that accurate. Use your GPS for SOG.

Go in to the syestem menus and double check that you have the speed turned on ....
often things will get turned off by mistake....

Well, if it is the paddlewheel assembly I can think of two possible problems. Either the Hall cell inside the transducer has gone bad or the paddlewheel may not have the same magnetic strength as it once had though this is doubtful unless the transducer is really old. Changing the paddlewheel assembly is, relatively easy and low cost. If the Hall cell is bad then you can change to a paddlewheel insert that has the Hall cell inside the insert (instead of inside the transducer). I have seen the kits offered and they include the proper connectors, etc. If this route sounds reasonable, call GEM Electronics, give them your info and they should be able to help you. Question, does the speed display just display zeros?

The speed display reads 0.0 kts. The paddle wheel is new, I ordered it from West Marine and used the part # in the manual.

The ducer that came with my Garmin fish finder has a speed wheel on it. It worked for a month or two after I 1st installed it then stopped. Since I have 2 other ways of telling how fast I'm going I never worried about it. When it worked, it was more accurate than I expected (the same or within 1kt of the GPS).
