Default Flats Boat Stereo/Speaker Install-- Advice & Suggestions Requested

Gentlemen (and Ladies),

I am looking to add a stereo to my Action Craft 1802. Due to the layout and the other accessories/electronics I have installed, my options seem to be pretty limited.

Details as follows:

I am looking for a good (not cheap and not top of the line) head unit and speakers. Open to an amp and sub if it could be worked in. Basically, I will be using the stereo only when running from place to place, so the overall use will be a little limited. So, I don't want to break the bank on this upgrade. Plus, I plan on updating the system on my Contender later this winter, and I would rather spend more money on that.

I have attached pictures for reference. Looks like I may be able to squeeze the stereo in the console (I can't measure right not because I am traveling, but I think I could fit one of the smaller fusion, etc units in there). For speakers, I think the only location that will work is the area right under the seat (open storage space- see picture). There is an open side on the console, but the other side has rod holders which I want to keep. Also, the area in the front is where the gas tank is located, so I don't think (but am not 100% sure) I can fit any speakers there.

So, the easy/basic option seems to be a small head unit and 2 speakers mounted under the seat and facing forward....

I am open to any suggestions-- mounting locations, specific units, creative advice, somewhat creative advice, anything.... Just looking for a little help!

Thanks in advance!

I'm guessing your GPS won't control a remote unit? I have an AC1890 with a Lowrance HDS Gen1. I bought the fusion and mounted it on a piece of starboard attached to the shelf in the console that I attached my LWX1 weather module to as well. There are a few options for mounting a "head" unit on the dash and putting the rest underneath. I mounted the speakers back by the bench seat, I should have put them where the rod ends sit when under the gunnel. The way I did it, speakers and wire took up alot of room under the bench, I later saw a picture where somebody did as I described above with no issue and the sound was reported to be great. I am getting for Xmas (2) 3' Poly Planner #3013 I think, speakers to mount on the forward sides of the console or just below the backrest. Sorry no pic for this. I mounted some rod holders on the side of the console shifted towards the rear. The were sea suckers that never found a home. I like yours by the tank, was to cautious to mount anything there, I keep my extinguisher on a sea sucker RF under the gunnel.

Is that a removable seat mount on the hatch? With my back getting worse, a seat is on my mind or a taller casting platform.

We do a system where there is no head unit at all, just a blue tooth module straight to your amplifier. Your smartphone will control everything, volume, tones, songs, etc. Obviously this wouldn't work if you're not planning on an amplifier, but you can add the amp instead of the head unit and be into it for roughly the same price and end up with much better sound. PM me and Ill get you all set up.

Thanks for the info and your experiences. Definitely would be interested in some pictures, if you have the time. The small speakers near the front of the console sounds like an interesting idea. Unfortunately, my Humminbird 998 does not integrate with a stereo.

Thanks again!

I would put the speakers on the sides of the console and install this Fusion. It should be plenty loud to hear while running. And if you aren't happy with the volume you can add an amp later.

23 Dorado- Thanks for the reply... The pics don't show it real well, but there are rod holders on the starboard side of the console... So, I could remove them and do speakers on each side, but I am trying to find another solution as I like the rod holders... Thanks for the suggestion for the fusion, as well.

Here's a video I came across on facebook. Small footprint and looks like it'll fit perfect in with the console space you show in the picture and its Bluetooth.
