Default Garmin and XM Weather - GDL40

I'm looking at eventually pulling the trigger on a 740s and was curious about the XM weather feature. I was undert he impression their were two possible weather scenarios. One with the GMX 50 antenna using full blown XM services, then there was another type of antenna (lower in price) that offered similar weather data via cellular service. Am I crazy in recalling this, or does anyone know or have what I'm talking about?

Actually I see it was the GDL40 which has been discontinued. Anyone know why and is anyone using it. What do you think about it.

The GDL40 was a Cellular antenna. The GXM51 is a Satellite antenna.

Yes. I was able to figure that part out. But anyone know why it was discontinued and is it still operational. Also, does anyone have one and is using it?
