Default Help with Lowrance Elite 7 HDI

I just bought one of these units and have used it a few times. The problem I am having is the depth reading comes and goes. Sometimes it reads fine and then I leave a spot, get on plane and nothing. When I stop it comes back sometimes and sometimes not. I generally run in water less than 200ft. and a speed of less than 40 knots. I have adjusted the transducer forward and backward with no change. I usually have to power the unit off and turn it back on to correct the problem. Any suggestions?

Pictures of the transom and mounting location. Forward and backward make no sense at all.

Also how is the power wired. Try wiring it straight to the battery with the provided inline fuse, if its not already like this. Without seeing the pics it sounds like you need to move the transducer down.

The forward and backward refers to rotating the transducer on the pivot screw a little forward or a little backward. It was mentioned in the manual, but did not help. I work 7on and 7off so i can't post a picture at this time. I have the transducer mounted exactly where an old unit came off and looking at the diagram in the installation manual it should be in the correct location. When I get back to the boat I will post a picture.

Leave it as flat as you can and move it up and down. You know those things with the notches have little letters on them so you put them in the stainless bracket the same? Then you can index them A, B, C, D to get in between each notch adjustment on the transducer?

In a perfect world you want the ducer flat (Same Angle) (Level) with the bottom of the boat. But the bottom of the ducer will be about 1/2 inch/ 3/4 inch below the boat running surface. But you may need to play with that a bit. And do as the other poster said, make sure you have clean power with no drops or spikes.

Thanks robmints, I will lower the unit before my next trip out. Hopefully that will take care of it.
