Default real life difference between GSD-22 vs GSD-24

I looked behind my console yesterday and the boat came with a 3210 and a GSD22 sounder box.
I was planing to add a gmr-18HD and a ghp20 (in the near future).
I may also change the transom mounted transducer it has now for a B-60.

With all that said.. the GSD24 is like 700 bucks, is it really worth it to change the sounder box?
What are the differences (other than 6 vs to 8 pins) between the gsd22 and the 24?

From what I have read, the GSD24 is considered a very very good fish finder. The GSD22 is generally considered to be a poor fish finder. You are talking what, $350 difference maybe? In my opinion I would bite the bullet and have no regrets.

Huge difference I feel. We have the GSD 22 on the Hatteras and it struggles to read the bottom at any speed. We recently upgraded the Alburys electronics and went with the 24. Great bottom detail, strong readings in 600ft+ overall great machine. This is with a TM-58. Overall the 22 is great if you just need to know the depth while fishing (sailfishing) compared to the 24 which offers great bottom detail.

Plus only $200 difference retail

First off..the GSD 24 will not work with the 3210.
But it is compatible with all the 4000 thru 8000 series MFD's.

And as everyone here has already posted..the GSD-24 is a step up ..and I have no doubt you will feel the $ is well spent once you start using it.

GDS22 = out
GSD24 = in

Gil:...thanks for the comment, I'm not planing to keep the 3210. The displays will be 7215s.

I have the 24 and I have viewed some of my dockmates 22 on the same head unit and it is a big difference. You should let gil qoute your replacements, he is the man.

he did already, and provided good advice in regard to thru hull sounder. Waiting for Hydra Sport to advice how hard and where to install such a transducer.

I have a GSD24 with a B60 transducer. Overall I am pleased. It rarely looses bottom and it seems to mark fish. That said, I get alot of noise at the surface (I believe you can block this out) and I do not get returns anywhere near as separated as Gil's pics.

Those shots of the GSD24 are were not taken by me but are from this link of an earlier posting of the THT...I am not certain of the transducer used.

http://www.thehulltruth.com/marine-e...enshots-2.html

Most shots of higher quality like that must be from a B260 or similar transducer ..which is almost 50 times more sensitive on the 50 kHz side than the P66 / B60.

You want to sell the crappy gsd22? I have a gsd21 I wouldn't mind comparing it to.
