Default Simrad nss

How's the simrad nss? Particularly the 7. Why is the 8 twice the price. Isn't it only a bigger screen?

NSS7 is a very good deal. The only difference except for 6.4 vs 8" screen is the ability to split the screen in four for NSS8 as well as a large optional data field on full screen radar.

I have three NSS units, two NSS7 and one NSS12. Excellent units, very good fishfinders and the hybrid touch, rotary controller and buttom interface is the most efficient user interface of any unit,

^^^^ Agreed.... Kind of odd given the price difference, isn't something built into the NSS7 that the others don't have? Either the BSM2 or internal GPS antenna?

Not sure what you're up against, but the HDS 7 Touch is a pretty awesome machine... Very similar to the NSS... Especially after this last update....

There's a bsm-1 built into the 7 and 8 but NOT in the 12

I like my NSS7. Yes the 8 is double the price for 1" more screen. It does way more than I need it to ever do. Do a search, lots of happy customers.

Just had 2 NSS8's installed last week, Sonic Hub, Sirius/XM Weather module and 3G radar...lovin my Simrad gear!!!

All networked together with my Standard Horizon GX2150 and my Raymarine autopilot...works flawlessly!!!

Man I do like my NSS12's... and the options of touch and/or knobs and buttons...
But there is allot of screen to be sacrificed for that rig....

In all honesty, when considering a unit with a screen that small, I think I'd rather a HDS Touch unit, and gain back some screen size... in trade for a knob and buttons...

The 8.0" screen of NSS8 has an area which is 56% larger than the 6.4" NSS7.

If 6.5-7" would gave been my only unit I would also gone HDS-7 Touch, even if I by far prefer the NSS user interface, partly because of screen size, but the main reason would have been data overlay which is utilizing the screen area more efficient than the NSS data bar. The possibility to run 3 or 4 windows and window scaling is another HDS Touch advantage. I have NSS7 and HDS-7 Touch side by side on one of my boats.

I went with one NSS7 as a trial this summer. After using it, I will go with dual NSS7 instead of one NSS 8. I like the redundency of having two boxes instead of one. Of course I would have like two NSS8 as shown above.... but the cash wasn't there.

This is my plan as well when I outfit with new electronics in the Winter/Spring..........why have a single 8" when you can get two 7" units for the same or less money.

I researched and spent a lot of time using several brands to include Lowrance and SIMRAD. In the end I chose the NSS7....best bang for the buck. The touch/rotary interface is awesome.
