Default Garmin base map show navigational markers, buoys, etc?

Doe the "base map" that comes standard on Garmin units like the Echomap 50 show markers, buoys and the like, or is just the outline of the shoreline?

Thanks. I ended up ordering the Echomap 50s with the g2 bluecharts anyway. I hope I am not wasting that money. Adds about $100 to the price of the unit.

The 5212 comes with US cartography I believe--the 50 comes with either world wide base map, (which would probably not have all of the buoys, or Lakes or off shore US--both of the latter would have nav markers in the areas covered--specific lakes, or the entire coast US. Usually Canada requires an extra chip, because of their laws.

Maybe I am just a poor searcher, but I don't know why they make it so hard to find out. You would think the website would have a page or two of examples of the base map for well known areas in different parts of the country. I saw several versions of a list that said the base map has US waterways, without saying whether that included markers and buoys and the like.

I always understood "base map" to mean no detail (i.e., markers, soundings).

the Garmin base map depends on the unit model. Echo Map shows great detail of inland waters and lakes. 500+ series shows great 'saltwater' detail ... so if your model has the correct base map for the area you are boating all the detail mentioned will be on the map.
