Default Garmin 3210 Radar Options?

Let me first say thanks to everyone for all the info that is posted on this site. This is my first post to ask for help, but I'm sure I'll be able to provide support myself in the near future.

I am picking up a Pursuit 2470 tomorrow that has a Garmin 3210 and I am looking at electronics options. My goal is to rig up this boat over the next few months to chase yellow fin tuna next season over in the islands. Mainly looking for birds I will obviously need radar. I see that the new GMR 1204 xHD and GMR 604 xHD are compatible.

What does everyone think?

I wish I had the funding to completely overhaul with a Garmin 7212 and CHIRP setup with the radar, but funds are limited. Thanks for your guys help.

Assuming those radars are compatible (as you've stated) you'll be fine with the 3210. Its a nice unit. Probably have to update it to the latest software version, though. Garmin has the update chips for a deposit unless you got a card and card reader in the deal with the boat.

I run a GMR18 HD with mine. You won't find birds but gives you better eyes on the water, especially in low visability.

I like my 3010c system.

No card or reader that I can locate, but I have a lot of things to sift though that came w the deal. It was owned by an older guy that just had to get rid of, and fortunately I was there to take it off his hands.

Thanks for the help!!!

You should take a close look at your tee top or whatever you are mounting to. The open arrays usually are much heavier than a dome and the vertical cg is again a good bit more. need to be something sturdy to mount on. I have seem them bust up their mounts.

I have a 3010C, 3210C, and 3206C tied to a GMR21. Definiatlly go with the 18 or 24 HD Digital. The 32xx units themselfs are pretty good. If you add radar to the network now, it will work when you replace the MFD in the future.

Don't waste the money. IMO you will not be able to see birds of any significance to help your fishing, especially if you are new to radar. Let me qualify this statement: I have the 3210 and a 3205 and the GMR 18. Unless, you spend more money than the value of all of your electronics for radar. Even then, its not worth it, money better spent on complete electronics overhaul ---IMO.

i am in the same "boat". i have a 3210 and have come to the conclusion that i would need a new chartplotter to be able to integrate a radar worthy of finding birds.

I agree with everything above. I think a better use of funds would be to upgrade your MFD (especially as the 3210 still has a solid resale value) a get a CHIRP or 'baby CHIRP' sounder. Get a closed array to use for navigation purposes.
