Default Garmin 740s Quits

The other day I headed out fishing and was monitoring my depth when my 740 went blank. I checked all connections and then checked with my meter. Had power, but 740 was dead. I took it to West Marine and they plugged it in as well. Dead! Only 5 days old. Anyone have or had any issues with their 740 or 740s?

Have a little over 1400 underway hours on mine hasn't missed a beat. Did you get a replacement?

To the OP, sounds like you should be getting a new 740 via mail. Maybe ask for the upgraded 741 to make up for your troubles.

Yes it was replaced by West Marine. Will be out on the water next week to put it to the test. I was just wondering if I should even slide the new one in my console or get something else. Seems I may be one of very few that have had issues with the 740.

All manufacturers have an issue once in a while garmin does a great jon fixing them. No notorious issues on that unit.

OHBA: Don't get a another unit. I have 2 740's (Well...1-740S & 1-720) on my 24' boat & love them. You simply received a bad unit (it happens) Trust me, the Garmin 740 has an excellent track record & their customer service is top-notch. Keep it & enjoy.

Dont know how much this applies to your situation... I have a 740s linked with I-command gauge. Had both units randomly shutting down and re-booting several weeks ago while in the 10000 islands (dangerous w/out gps and maps). Was also getting weird fuel readings on occasions. Anyway, I-command was diagnosed as having non-current software. Updated software and memory stick. Seems to have curred the issue.

I 100% agree. Also the 700 series was really popular for Garmin so I am sure they sold a ton of unit. The more units that hit the market the more that will come back defective.

I doubt Garmin will do that. Simply put, unlike Lowrance, I don't think they have to.

Thanks guys! Just needed a little reassurance that I made the right choice. I just bought my first boat last Wednesday. This is the only issue I have had in 4 trips out.
