Default HDS10 Gen 2 issue

This boat came with this HDS10. Everything works as it should but the GPS is way off. We are running center river and it shows me on land. 100' or better easily. It's not just certain areas it's everywhere.

What can I do to correct this?

This issue is almost always due to errors/shifts in the map database. In other words, your actual GPS position is very accurate, but the original data that was used to build the map was inaccurate. Are you seeing this with Lowrance mapping, or are you running an aftermarket mapping card?

Lowrance mapping, I believe. There is no card in the slot. When I got the boat, the screen was blank as the map base? was not selected for Lowrance, if I'm remembering that correctly. I reset the unit and selected the right base and the screen showed the maps. However, they are off center. It's like the map is shifted over.

what I mean by off is, I'm watching my cursor on the screen and it's way left.

If the cursor is shown you are in the wrong mode, push Exit and the cursor will disappear. If you have not enabled Look forward the boat should now be shown in the centre of the chart.

ok, well my traveled path takes me well over land. what's that about?

I do believe the boat shows in the center of the chart. It's that the chart is off.

Most likely the chart you are using has poor data for the area you are operating in. Used to have the same issue in my area when we went outside the zones where detailed mapping data had been included on our map chips.

See if you can borrow a navionics chip that covers your area and try that, remember to select Navionics maps from the chart setup menu.

This is a major inlet/intercoastal, hard to think they fudged that up on a new Gen 2 unit. The picture is correct all the way, it's just about an inch to the left of where I'm actually at.

I have a new HDS7 Gen2 and was marking some waypoints 300 yds west of the Tampa Bay Skyway bridge.
Problem was, the chart on the gps showed I was under the bridge.
When I was under the bridge, my position showed I was 300 yds east of the bridge.

I then started checking buoys and they were spot on.

Called Lowrance and sent them some screen shots, and a copy of a NOAA chart I use to display waypoints on my home computer with the waypoints showing where they actually are on the NOAA chart.

At first my fishing buds and I thought that perhaps they were showing the old (25 years ago) Skyway Bridge. Which was about ....300 yds west of the new (25 years old) Skyway Bridge.

Finally, I just turned off the "Roads" classification, as it is a bit disorienting to be looking at a large bridge to your east while your gps shows you under it.

I have an HDS Gen 1 on the boat as well, and it shows just like the Gen 2. .

Hopefully Lowrance will figure out a cure.

HB has a map off set feature built in to cure this issue. Maybe lowrance has this as well.

I called Lowrance to double check to see if there was something like a GPS offset feature or another way to correct the GPS. Said it may be a chart issue as mentioned above. To check to see if it is your GPS or your chart though, set a waypoint of exactly where you are and head away from it, about a hundred feet or so and go back to where you set it. If it is still where you set it and it is showing the same spot on the screen your GPS is fine, the chart itself is off then. If that is the case, they said call into Lowrance and report it so their engineers can squeegee this problem out of the software.

I marked several waypoints. Returned a few hours later and they were still showing structure where I marked them.

My emails with Lowrance tech support are ongoing. I did send them screen shots showing my waypoints being under the Skyway bridge on the HDS chart.

I also sent them pictures of my waypoint management software (Andren) showing the same waypoints on a NOAA chart. On the NOAA chart, the waypoints are positioned where they are supposed to be in relation to the bridge.

Next, they want a screen shot showing the gps location of the bridge from the HDS unit. I will get that to them tomorrow.

Since the channel marker buoys are showing correctly on the HDS when I am right next to them, and my waypoints are at the same spot when I return to them, I am assuming the chart is incorrect. Hard to believe I am the only one getting these results. I know there are lots of HDS users in the Tampa Bay area.

I will also try the new update mentioned above and see if that might correct the problem.

I saved the UPD to the SD card but I didn't unzip it. My uploader on the HDS say 2.4.4.

I hate not knowing what I'm doing here. I can't unzip the file to put it on the SD card.

This is stupid, I'm going to just buy a Navionics gold or platinum and be done with it.

$2k GPS and doesn't do the most basic function correctly....lol

Right click on the file and click on extract. After that copy the extracted files to your sd card, with the unit off insert the sd card, turn the unit on, and it will update automatically. If you read the directions for the update it explains all of this, really could not be any simpler

don't be a smartazz, it's the extraction I'm having issues with.....I get the error windows can not open file. I loaded up 7zip to manage it but I can't get it for whatever reason. These files use to unzip auto, they don't now.
