Default Garmin 82 Series

Well someone decided that they wanted the electronics off my boat more than me so had to put something back in went with the new glass helm garmins. Really like them. obviously faster than the 52 series they replaced. cutouts had to be made bigger top and bottom. but the width was fine. uses less power than the other screens. stick out less. now for the fun stuff. they link together which is nice so if you choose fishing it will automatically put both screens in sync to whatever predetermined pages you pulled up. Such as fishing chart and sounder, nav chart and bottom zoom etc. i also did the grid remote because the boat has the plexi clear cover that goes over the electronics plus i hate touch screen when the boats running. on every layout you can change the information displayed on the screen and the location of the data. So you can do a bar on the right left top or in the corners etc. Any questions ask away. i havent spent too much time with it but have some.

The feature to sync screens is pretty nice.

I tried to set up the helm so anything I would need to control would be right at my right hand so my left can stay on the wheel. So the grid remote, fusion head unit, autopilot control and trim tabs are all on that right side around the binnacle.

Did you get the flush mount kit that puts the glass at the same level as the dash?

Nope the standard mount is only 1/8 of an inch so didn't see the need. I was considering getting a single piece of acrylic to make it look like one big unit but then couldn't use the sun covers so scrapped that.

10-4 thanks for the info. Sounds like we won't be using any of those kits if you can't use the sun covers.

The link sounds excellent. What are the other big differences that you have between the 5x and the new 8k series?

You have fissues. Looks so good that I wouldn't want to put that silly steering wheel back on either.
Might block the view. That's why God made Autopilots.

I never use the wheel except for docking. The holder in between the vhfs is for the autopilot remote. I had the wheel off to cut the holes and mount it all.

bradv, after looking at our electronics box yesterday (boat is getting rigged out right now) we too opted to decline on the glass mount. Can't use the sunshade. Flush mount actually makes it harder to get to VHF and Fusion on our boat. Where did you mount the double card reader?

card reader is flush mounted inside the console next to the door that goes to the back of the units. the other option is just have them pull tie it to your bundle of wires because how often do you ever use the card reader? i thought about it but had space in the same area everything else is so it was easier.
