Default Help with Transducer Wiring

Hello All, I am trying to see if I can re-use an older Si Tex thru hull transducer (3 pin) to work with a new Garmin 740S. The Garmin uses a 6 pin connector so I was wondering if I could just wire to a terminal strip to the correct wires and it would work. Garmin uses Blue (+), Black (-) and Bare or Shield for the transducer communication. I am assuming that the older transducer uses Black (+), Wht (-), and bare or Shield and I can just hook up the wires to match. Any info would be appreciated on this.

Check this link -- AIRMAR manufactures all the transducers and I believe they have info you need

Here's link --

Default Convert the wires?

You might want to also consider checking with BlueHeronMarine.com to see if they do a wire that converts one to the other. I just received the wire I ordered to convert my 10 pin Airmar formerly running to a Furuno to a 6 pin Garmin. It was $70 including shipping but it plugged right together including a locking ring to secure the Furuno 10 pin to the new cable. It is called an "Adapter Cable" or patch cord.

I would be very hesitant to use an older 3 wire Stiex transducer on a newer 600/1000 watt sonar.

First ..your current unit fires 50 & 200 kHz...many of those older Sitex systems were not dual band 200 kHz or 50 khz....like your current system is now using.
You may be able to use 200 khz but it will not be at the optimum quality as compared to a current model transducer.

Second...many of those 3 wire Sitex units were only 300 watts...so if you are firing 600 watts from your current 740s.......zaaap!

Depending on your fishing depths and conditions there are many transducers you can choose from that will bring out the full potential of the 740s.

Here are just a few..

For a thru hull :
B60..single element 600 watts ..good for shallow to a little more.
B164...3 element 1kw..6 times better at 50kHz than the B60.

transom:

P66..same basic element as the B60.
Tm258...4 elements and 25 times more sensitive at 50 kHz than the B60/P66.
Tm260...8 elements and 50 times more sensitive at 50 kHZ than the B60/P66.

In hull (Shoot thru)
P79..same basic element as the B60/P66
M260...same elements as the Tm260.
