Default furuno ethernet connection box

I have all Furuno equipment and am getting ready to add the chirp finder to a navnet 3 system. Right now all I have on this unit is weather and GPS. What's the deal with the Ethernet box Furuno sells and why is the Furuno one better? Furuno gives some reason why theirs is better but I don't understand. They say you don't have to use their Ethernet box but say it's better. It cost way more. Can someone explain the difference to me.

Can't comment on NavNet 3 specifically, but I've been using a Best Buy store brand (Dynex?) hub with my NavNet 2 system for several years with no problems. It's mounted in a dry location.
It was dirt cheap.

the furuno hub101 supports their power sync. if you have a second station it can be handy to have, otherwise it isn't a big deal. it is also more industrial than a typicial network switch.
