I would:
1. Keep the 740 for GPS/nav and add radar to it.
2. Get the new 527xs (or 721xs if you have the space and $) mini chirp fishfinder/gps

Or you could get a second 740s. They are nice enough units. Not real networkable, but neither would the 527xs or 721xs. If you go the xs route, go with the 527xs or 547xs (get a back up GPS too). The taller screen is more favorable for a fishfinder. The draw back is, they are not touch screens.

I would sell it all and start over. You can get a Lowrance HDS Gen II with a G4 BB radar for minimum cash output. and it is wonderful. Yes, other people are going to split hairs over other equipment but do some reading on G4 BB radar and how easy it is to install with the Lowrance equipment. NMEA 2000 capable I may add. My equipment work perfectly.

Well lets say you have 2 5208 sitting side by side. I can use them both as sonar, both as radar, both as GPS. All functionality should be available to both displays. The 740s, 547xs, they can only share minor data like GPS position, waypoint, stuff like that. But only the one connected to the radar can display radar, only the one connected to the transducer can be a sonar.

I run a 5208, 740s and 18 HD radar on my boat. The radar is plugged into the 5208, the 740s is used as the sounder (and back up chartplotter and radar display). My boat is too small for full networking.

So then the advantage is that you can have both displaying the same information at different zoom levels and different screens and if one unit goes down for some reason the other will still display the info wanted
