Default what Package to buy

I have a 21' Cape Horn CC that is my project boat. I plan on fishing out of Mobile bay to 40 mile radius. Listening to y'all I still confused on a good Electronics Package for her. I want to stay under $2400. I have empty E box. What would you fit her with ?

She is a strong 1998 Cape with a 225 Optimax. So I will not need a system with engine monitor.

Look at a Simrad NSS8. I don't now the depths where you fish, but most of the fishing is at 200' and less I would recommend B60. It will show bottom at much larger depths but fish detection will deteriorate from 200'. In addition you need a good VHF. I have been onboard a commercial vessel in the area where you boat so I know there is a lot of commercial traffic there so a VHF with AIS receiver would be great. AIS will let you see all larger vessels on your screen without radar. Two options for VHF with AIS to consider, Standard Horizon GX2150, or Simrad RS35 . GX1500E will interface using NMEA 183, RS35 using NMEA 183 or NMEA 2000. RS35 is recently introduced and there have been quite some software problems affecting the NMEA 2000 communications. According to the latest I've heard they now have a stable software which hopefully will be rolled out this week. When the software is stable my recommendation is RS35, it has good range and sound quality and NMEA 2000 gives much simpler and more reliable interfacing.

Garmin 741s and GMR18HD radar package. It is towards the upper end of your price range but it features a 7" touch screen, built in "baby chirp" fish finder (google baby chirp to read up) and a 4kw radar. You will still need a transducer, so your looking at over $2,500 in parts alone. Then again, its a great package as the baby chirp is the current latest/best sounder on the market.

I've got a 05 Cape Horn 21 and I'm in the process of looking to outfit mine with new electronics as well.
After going to a local West Marine and playing with everything hands on for an hour I think I have settled on dual Simrad nss7 units. You can run 2 of them for what one nss8 will cost you, and have two 7" units instead of one 8" unit.
Something I liked about the Simrad over all the others is that they are a combination of touch screen controls, but also have a few hard controls including a rotary knob which is used to zoom in/out on the chart plotter, and increase/decrease gain on the sonar. When you are underway and pounding through some sloppy water that rotary knob makes it worlds easier to use than having to use a touch screen to zoom/adjust settings.

The Simrad also has radar and structure scan capability, and honestly looks like the most unit for the money to me.
Check with Semperfifishing, he is a vendor here and has a great price on them if interested.
