Default Simrad GoFree installed, working, but . . . .

OK, got it installed, downloaded GoFree Controller and Viewer App.

In the setup instructions it says you start the App and tap the NSS icon in the GoFree Controller page to request remote control of the NSS.

But when I do that it simply shows the NSS screen (what is currently on the NSS screen) but doesn't prompt me to confirm the remote control of the device. So basically I can see what is on the screen on my Ipod but cannot control the NSS device with my Ipod.

Could this be because it is an Ipod and not an Iphone or Ipad?

I cannot seem to find any way to fix this.

The other funny thing is that under the WiFi menu on the NSS when I select Devices it is supposed to show my Ipod on the list but it doesn't show it. Supposedly all connected wireless devices are supposed to be listed in the NSS dialog, but again I'm wondering if the Ipod is technically a "receiver" but can't control since perhaps it doesn't transmit like an Iphone or Ipad would?

make sure you have the latest software on all devices. sometimes the older software will not allow certain functions.

From smartphones the app is viewer only, I would assume an IPod behaves the same. You need a tablet to be able to remotely controlling the NSS.

2-way control is only available on some devices: http://www.simrad-yachting.com/en-US...y/GoFree-Apps/

"When using your iPhone, this clever app repeats your Simrad NSS screen for the ultimate in wireless viewing. When using an iPad, you can view and control your Simrad NSS to change lighting levels, mark waypoints, set radar guard zones, play your favourite SonicHub tunes and much more with this free application."

Hmm - so what tablet should I get? Does any Android tablet work or does it have to have a certain OS?

Any Android tablet will work.

NSE will due to lack of MPEG encoder not get the possibility to mirror the screen on a tablet or smartphone,. The next NSE software version will have GoFree support but only for sharing NMEA 2000 type information.
