Default Lowrance Elite-5 DSI Gold..Lack of settings???? Need Help..

Bought a Lowrance Elite-5 DSI Gold for a back up on my Boat.Been out 1 time with it,played around with it for awhile.Today,I was going thru the Manual and was trying to go to different menus to change things around.

This is where it gets interesting....Tried to find some things on the Sonar that are in the Manual..Such as.....Sensitivity....Color line....Fishing Mode....Ping Speed..They do Not come up on my Unit as they show in the Manual...WTF? Other things do that they show ..Anyone have one that may be able to help me?

I've been thru it today many times.I 'm pretty sure I have accessed ALL the pages thruout the Menu...Of course......It could be one of my Stupid days! LOL....

The sonar functions you are looking for are for normal 2D sonar not DSI. You have the DSI version which don't have 2D sonar.

The manual is probably the same for all the Elite-5 models.

The Manual says Elite-5 DSI Operation manual....Nothing else...Guess I need to read everything though,as page 1 states "This Manual covers several units. Some features and screen shots may differ from your unit's capabilities or from what you see on your screen .Your Unit however, will function in a similar manner"

Very confusing! Just tell me what it has and does not,Lowrance!

Sounds like you may have the cover of the DSI manual and the content of the ordinary sounder version. I checked the DSI manual at the Lowrance website and there was nothing about 2D sounder there.

I purchased the same unit as a back up, I found the same issue with mine. I have tried all the settings listed and unless it is operator error, which is possible. I have not been impressed with the unit. I can't come anywhere close to the pics in the manual. I am fishing salt water generally 40ft or less not much detail shown. If there is a secret to the unit please let me know.

If it had not had gotten it for $300.00 when West Marine had it on Sale,I'd be upset with it.Pretty much my same usage and I'm not impressed with it at all.My Ray C-80 kills that thing.

The fanciness of dsi combined with the target user being more of a casual user seems to have led them to making most of the adjustments automatic. Is this the manual you have:
http://www.lowrance.com/Root/Lowranc...0153-001_w.pdf

Where are you looking for bottom feature? Not much down there.

Rob,The cover page of my Manual says..."Elite 5 DSI Operation Manual...That's ALL it says...Was tryin' to dial it in according to "What Features" the Manual "seems" to say it has.

I think crbooggs has it right! LOL..

Look through the manual I linked to. None of that sonar stuff is there. You have some high, medium, low choices and surface clarity, and you can set some ranges and offsets, but most of the control you have over real down scan, ss, and traditional sonar are all done by the software.

My plan for tomorrow is out Middle river through the cut, down to baltimore light and see if we can scare up some spot, then over to love point to live line the spot. I think we may have missed the bite, but maybe some blues will show up. I don't expect a whole lot of production right behind this weather front, but a boat ride beats a lot of other choices of stuff to do. I saw that Fountain going down Rt40 last year right after he got it. Looked like a beast, no wonder Fountain only made 1 small block.

I looked at it today..Pretty clean Boat....Needs some Bildge Hoses,Bellows and Water Hoses...No Electronics,No Trailer..Engine looks Great...Clean Bildge,No smell of Fuel..Yea,It had a 17" prop on it...Supposed to run 50 m.p.h. He has a sheet from Fountain stating the speeds a certain rpm's. WOT @4650 rpm's was 51 mph. I kinda find it hard to believe with a 17" prop. on a Boat that size...Maybe so,Don't know.
