Default Sonar depth finder

I have Garmin 740s,but been having problems with depth reading going out,if I reboot it usually comes back on for a while. It is a transom mounted tilting type transducer. Last weekend cleaned transducer ,heard it clicking,it worked about half the time, any troubleshooting ideas? Now im thinking of adding some type of second device any suggestions? brand name and model? Don't like not having an accurate reading. Boat is in a wet slip no trailer, till pull boat at end of season. When winterizing will probably add some kind of second unit. thanks.

I was using a mask and snorkel, water wasn't real clear. I looked when I got home I believe it is a garmin 10 10272 00 transducer. Next trip im going to move it to different tilt degrees and see if that helps. Semperfi fishing any suggestions? May end up ordering a p66 from you at a later date. I want to trouble shoot this to be sure what needs fixing first.

Yes..the OEM is not all that great and a P66 could improve things.

If you can borrow a P66 just hold it over the side.

Good to hear, will be changing it. Guess I will have to wait till pulling boat out end of season. Having boat 3hrs away in wet slip makes it harder to do repairs.

Another option that will allow you to use your sonar now and not have to pull the boat is a in hull P79.
Simple to install and if your hull is of good quality fiberglass a good unit.
