Default HDS 88 Gen 2

I juast installed a new HDS 8 Gen 2 with airmar P66. Two questons have come up The P66 has a speed wheel on it but I don't see a spped indicator on the sonar page. How do I get that? I get depth and temp just fine. The internal GPS antenna doesn't shoot through my T top although many friends claim theirs does fine through the T top. Is there a problem with shooting through the T top? Mine is a Sunbrella T top. Do I need an externa antenna? Tere is a Baja package for the Point - 1 Antenna that includes the NMEA starter kit on the Lowrance site but no one seems to sell it. Anyone know about the kit?

My internal GPS antennas have always performed well with my bimini open, and I have friends with fiberglass T-tops and their internals work equally as well as mine. Have you selected SPEED as overlay data to be displayed? Go to your desired chart page, or if a combo page make sure the chart side is active, press Menu and select Edit Data Overlay. Now highlight Select Data and press enter. Find Speed on the menu and select it.

This may not be exact because I'm sitting at a desk instead of a console.

Took the boat to the lake to try and get GPS to shoot through the T top. Apparently on the first use it takes a clear sky and longer to get the satellites. Jim at BOE Marine recommended this. Works fine now. The speed wheel did not show up on the screen you mentioned until it was running. Now it works fine. I guess all this adds up to user inexperience / ignorance. Overall I think the manual could be better.

Yes...yes...and absolutely yes on the manual.

Glad it all works now.
