Default Garmin 4212/ GSD22 Issues

I have a Garmin 4212 with the standard Garmin 6 pin transom mount depth finder. Recently it started acting up. When I turn it on it seems like it takes forever for it to start reading depth. Then for some reason it will stop reading. I called Garmin and they told me to check the power light and that it should be flashing. So the last time I went out in the boat, the depth wasn't working and the power light was flashing. They also told me to put my hand on the bottom to see if it was ticking, so I put my hand on the bottom and it was ticking. Does anyone know what could be wrong? I also check the angle of it and it seems like it hasn't moved. The transducer is probably 5 years old, could it be at the end of it's life span?

Thanks
Jeff

Hard to say. Semperfifishing will probably be along shortly to help. I recently had a gsd 22 go bad on me. Sometimes it would mark bottom, other times just flashing depth. Gsd was not accessible to verify the lights on unit. If the ducer is ticking, double check the angle. If the gsd is bad Garmin will send you a refurb for 89.00.

Thanks Drive! I'm hoping it's not the GSD, but if it is I'll have to exchange it out. I bought a Transducer thinking that could be the problem, so it should be here tomorrow. 90$ bucks for a replacement GSD is that bad but it's only 2 years old.

Semperfifishing, what do you think?

If that transducer is an OEM Garmin unit it could very well be at its end.
A simple test is to just borrow another (Known good of course) ducer and test by holding the borrowed one in the water. etc.
