Default Help with Side Scan .... world cat

Hello All,

Looking to add side scan to my world cat 266. Can I use the transom mount ducer on one sponson or the other? Does brand (Lowrance / Humminbird) matter in this regard? Hoping to connect with a fellow cat boat owner with experience in this regard. Thanks!

I had a HB997SI on my WC245.
I used two transducers with a splitter from HB and had great returns on both sides with that configuration.
I have since downsized to a smaller mono hull, left my HB on the World Cat for the new owner, and installed an HDS unit on the mono hull.
I am only using one transducer now, and am satisfied with my images, so I'm not pursuing a dual transducer set up for now.
I "think" Lowrance also sells a dual transducer splitter.

You just have to consider viewing angle. If you put a single transducer on a single sponson, will it have a clear view to both sides without obstruction from something on the othe sponson. If so, one transducer will be fine. If not, you can get 2 transducers and connect them with a Y cable. The 2 transducers I do not think are different from the single transducer, the Y cable is where the magic happens.

This is correct. The transducers are the same. The Y cable seperates the side imaging signal allowing the starboard transducer to pass only the starboard return, and the port transducer to pass only the port side return. The Y cable will allow the Down Imaging, 2D, and temp from the starboard transducer only. It worked great for me.

I do not think you will get clean returns from the opposite side with a single transducer. Too much turbulance and stuff in the way. But you could just show the one side only view using the side you are on.

I put one transducer to the bottom of the port side sponson. Screwed and 5200 right to the bottom of the boat. I've done this on the last two boats and it works great. Simrad has a function that you can swap the view so the cable is out the back of the transducer and runs up the transom.
