Default "Ditch Bag" Handheld Recommendations?

I need to get new handheld marine VHF and would appreciate recommendations. This would be for on Lake Superior near Duluth, Apostle Islands, etc... Thanks in advance!

Standard Horizon HX851 just added this to mine ditch bag,i will mount the charging base in the console, that way it will be the last thing i throw in the bag before we leave and it will be fully charged..my old VHF used batteries and i always worried it would not be ready when needed...hopefully we never will need..

I have the Standard Horizon HX851 and am very happy with it but that Nautilus is very cool and a reasonable price.

The problem I see with the Nautilus is that it is only a DSC unit--not a full radio. I want a PLB or EPRB for rescue--and 4000 sq miles is a bit of an exageration for coverage of the Nautilus--sort of an unknown.
Stick with Standard Horizon or Icom for VHF radios. You want DSC and submersible.

I prefer a radio and PLB for each person on the boat, so it can be on their person during rough weather or times of difficulty.

Thataway, I read the Nautilus website and it says it can transmit to all VHF channels and has a select.

I agree though, I carry a PLB and my SH HX851.

BUT they are only summable to one atmosphere for a limited time.

I wish I could afford to equip every one of my passengers with a PLB and VHF but it's just out of the question as well as the instructions/training required before each fishing trip.
