Default Wiring question with new sending unit - WEMA

Ok,,,another DIYer.....Have an Opti with Smart Gauges. Analog fuel gauge has not worked and we used info on here to determine the sending unit was bad. Can I just wire the sending unit pink and black to the boats pink and black and leave the smart gauges unplugged. There are no wires to hook the two Smart Gauge wires ( pink/black and orange/black ) to the sending unit. My preference would be to just have the analog gauge in working order. Hope this makes sense.

Ok,,,so here is what we did. Grounded the orange/black wire from engine to sending unit. Wired pink/black wire, which is also the switch wire, from engine with pink sending unit wire to pink wire coming from console and gauge. Wired black wire from sending unit to black wire from console. Nothing exploded yet....Gas tank is full so hopefully the analog gauge will track as it goes down.

I just purchased a Pursuit that the previous owner had installed the Smartcraft gauge system along with an analog fuel gauge. He could not get the analog fuel gauge to work. My friend and I want to rig the fuel tank to the Smartcraft system, so we will be faced with a similar experience in the next few days. Keep fingers crossed for us that we might figure this out. If we have success, we'll post how we did it.

Regards
