Default So why the delay on the Garmin 741xs?

Were suppose to be out 1st Quarter or early spring. Now everyone is saying late June. What happened? Problem with the Chirp Ducers? Snapper Season opens Sat. and I was hoping to have one by now.

I do think Garmin has a few things up their sleeve - but I also think they might want to get it RIGHT before they ship it.

I just got the quatix watch for my Dinghy sailing - and I am very disappointed. It can't yet do the nice hookups listed in the brochures/spec sheet - so it seems like everything was very rushed. And I tried Homeport for the first time and that was even more of a disappointment. Then look at Garmin Express map update software - again full of bugs - not to say completely unusable for a lot of us.

So I think there are some "quality issues" in their product development somewhere.

An even more important issue is transducer availability.

The TM150M and the B75 will be the only choices until about October when the B175 is due out.

Maybe, unlike Lowrance, they wanted to ship a new unit that actually worked, rather than have their customers buy one and wait 6 months for a software patch.

It looks like the B175 are available now? Is it just that they are not available with the proper connector for the 741?

I am referring to the B175-8G for the single band xs series.

The bare wire CHIRP transducers are all readily available..and have been for a good deal of time..but not the 8 pin connector versions.

There are always bugs - and I promise you my Raymarine C97 STILL has a lot more "bugs(some GM's call them features) " than my HDS G2 touch ever had.

But I guess the financial crisis has caused many electronics companies to have less developers - or they have less "motivated developers"

If you of you guys are into PC gaming....It's like "Blizzard" Software (Warcraft series)...they simply won't put out a half-baked PC game until it's polished. This is what Garmin does & that's why I stand behind their products! When the 741 series comes out...it will be right from the get-go.

i called Garmin just the other day because I was getting annoyed and they would not give a date but did confirm they would ship in the second Q so I guess we have less than a month to wait now. The next fear is when they do finally start shipping that they have enough units.

Garmins latest products have been anything but polished...Brochures promising more than the product delivers. Look at the quatix watch. Only today did they release an updated BlueChart Mobile version with quatix support.

But the quatix website has been saying "BlueChart mobile compatible" for a long long time - and quatix users have been ripping their hair out to figure out how it works - only to find a small mention on Garmin forums that it was not working yet. Talk about wasting customers time and making customers think they are the idiots that can't get it to work.

Small issue IMO. I have $2500+ wrapped up in a Lowrance unit that hasn't worked since I bought it in November.

They all have issues. I had a Raymarine C120 and teh thing never works right always some sort of an issue. Garmin has had a good reputation lately.
