Default Decided to add a second Garmin unit. Need some help on which model to go with.

I recently purchased the Garmin 7212 along with radar and autopilot. I'm now thinking of going ahead and adding a second screen before the install. My question is should I go with another 7212 or would it make sense to save a little and add the 5212 instead? I'm not sure what the advantages/disadvantages would be. Any help would be appreciated.

What other electronics do you have and how would you use the 2nd display? If you use the 7212 for chartplotter/radar then a 2nd MFD could be used for the sounder or instruments and doesn't need to be the higher end MFD. I was going to do just this but decided on 2x 5212.

That's what I figured. I'll have the ability for plotter, radar, bottom machine, and auto pilot. I think I'm going to go with the 5212 and call it a day. Are there any certain accessories/cables that I'll need to network the two?

You can also just get the 5212 in a display version to be used as the second station...about $200 less.

If you have the Garmin 19x 10Hz GPS receiver - then I would go for another 7212. The 4000/5000 series are not really fast enough to deal with the 10Hz GPS signal. I do think Garmin does not even consider the 19x compatible with the 4000/5000 series.

Would that be an extra receiver? I purchased the 7212 but no other GPS receiver. I guess this raises the question, should I add this receiver if its not the one that is included with the 7212?

Semper- what's the difference in the regular 5212 and the display version? Any price difference?
