Default Clarion stereo replacement/suggestions

Here's what I have:

A factory installed Clarion system.....source unit installed in the cabin, speakers and remote...in a 2007 model boat.

Here's what I'd like to do:

Link an iPod to it in a way that will sound better (no FM modulator) and still be contolled at the helm (so the Aux is out of the picture). Obviously, bluetooth seems to be the best way from what I can tell.

And I'd like to do it with minimal $ involved and I sure don't want to change out the entire system. It would seem that the new Clarion M303 would be the way to go if it'll just 'plug and play', but I can't find that unit anywhere. (much less find anyone that knows anything about it).

Any help or suggestions is appreciated.

I replaced my old Clarion with the new Fusion M700. It has an internal iPod dock, but the large screen makes it easy to use,and I have a wired remote to control it as well.

For me, it'll be such a pain to get to everything, that changing too much will be more trouble than its worth. If I could even get to any of it at all.

I don't know anything about those, so you may be right. But I want to be able to scroll thru playlists/artists, etc, at the helm and still be able to swap over to satellite and volume using the remote that is hard wired at the helm.

Take a look on Amazon or even Crutchfield, just type in the model, and you will be able to find it for sale. I looked into replacing my Sony head unit with one of the new Bluetooth Clarion units, but I'm not sure it's worth the trouble. Clarion has some really nice new head units available.

Clarion even has a waterproof rf remote that has a 100ft range, so you can be in the water and change songs or volume.

The m700 Fusion also has an Ethernet port. Plug in a linksys wireless router and now you can use your iPhone anywhere in the boats network range. Playlists and everything. I have one and it works great.

That seems like alot of work just to play music when Bluetooth is available on alot of the newer models. Also, with Bluetooth you can use the remote control units to change the song.

Let me guess:

http://www.clarion.com/us/en/product...643389097.html

The (much older) boat I bought about a year and a half ago had one installed. Works OK, for what it is; but a real PITA to use with all those tiny little buttons and the very minimal wireless remote. It's on my list of things to be replaced; but at the moment, I have bigger fish to fry.

Not with the right head unit, it isn't. Consider:

And...

Don't use Bluetooth. It sucks for audio. Stash your iToy down below near the head unit (where it will remain well-protected), connect it to any of the above-cited head units using USB, then control it all COMPLETELY from the MW1 or MW4.

And I'd like to do it with minimal $ involved
'Twas ever thus.

and I sure don't want to change out the entire system.
Define "entire system" in this context. Presuming they are still working properly and you're OK with the sound quality, there's no pressing reason to change out the speakers and any external amps.

It would seem that the new Clarion M303 would be the way to go if it'll just 'plug and play', but I can't find that unit anywhere.
More tiny little buttons, all bunched together. Yuck.

[QUOTE=Itteldoo;5432158]Let me guess:

Actually, I've got this unit in the cabin:
http://www.clarion.com/us/en/product...544055054.html

And I have this dude at the helm:

I guess what I mean by 'entire system' is actually just yanking out the wired remote. Which, to me, is my biggest hurdle because of where its mounted and the access, or lack thereof, to it.
I'm fine with the speakers, sub, sound quality, etc. I would just really like to be able to control my iToy from the helm. Really that simple. Its not fun to constantly go down in the cabin....because a buddy would like to hear a different tune.

So, back to the question of: Is it worth it or just suck it up and deal with it?

Thanks for the responses........

Clarion just changed their warranty policy from what my local shop says. If they are making warranty exchanges hard, it will suck to have a Clarion and I'll look for something that is easier to exchange.

Close enough. Same slew of tiny little buttons, nearly impossible to operate on a moving boat.

Well, notwithstanding the contortionist/PITA factor (which you only have to deal with once, after all), you're actually lucky in this respect. The MW1 or MW4 would be a drop-in replacement for that CMRC1-BSS. Were it me, I'd probably stick to the MW1, and use the CMD8 below. I don't need a color LCD to pick what tunes to play; and I really prefer the control layout on the CMD8.

That is all eminently doable using the setup I suggested.

Your money, so your call. But if I had to guess... I think you'd be very happy with the CMD8/MW1 combo.

Itteldoo.........many thanks for the feedback. I will definitely look in to what you're suggesting. I Amy even rattle your brain for some more info if I hit a roadblock.

Thanks again.....
