Default battery question group 27s instead of 24s

I'm re-arranging my current 3 battery system down to a 2 battery system.

I'm curious if any of you run a dual group 27 system and have had any issues with power to the house battery or if it's always been enough.

So the current set up is a blue seas switched 3 battery system. One starting battery (group 24) and two group 24 agm (cabelas) for the house battery.

The cabela batterys have lasted a whopping 2.5 years. Only reason I'm thinking about swapping to a 2 battery system is...bad batteries...and I just ran across 2 free group 27 batteries. They ARENT AGM, just normal rv/marine batteries.

My thought was to have one group 27 as the starting and the other as the house. But I run both a c-80 and a c-90 and often have my bait pump running the entire time. My thought was that the switch should be consistanly charging the house battery as it switches over, but I've just never gone with a single house battery since owning the boat so I don't know if it will power these items.

Any thoughts from the guys running just two 27s???

I'm still confused what you have and you are trying to do...

I think you are confusing batterys with banks. it sounds like you currently have 2 banks. one of which is 2 batteries.

or you actully have 3 banks and swtiching between all of them?

provide more info on your current setup, and what switche(s) you have, and how you use them.

single engine?

I have 2 banks. One with just a group 24 starting battery. The other with 2 group 24 AGM batteriers

I want 2 banks, but a single starting 27 and a single house 27.

Single engine, blue seas switch (ACR the kind that charges the starting battery then kicks to the house battery)

if the engine is always running and charging you'd probably be fine. but any drifting / trolling motor / anchoring you'd be pretty small.

I have to wonder why the other ones lasted so short. normally it's over discharge that kills them. so if you keep draining 2 24's to low, a single 27 is going to last much less time. I would confirm you're actully charging the house bank while under way at your normal speeds. if you're just idling along the alt might not be keeping up, and draining on the house bank.

I don't know. I haven't been overly impressed with the Cabelas line of AGM batteries. Maybe you get what you pay for there.

Stay with AGM

In this case free is not the best deal

I have Deka AGM's and they have been great - 3 x Grp 27
