Smile Radar pedestal mount

Hello,
I'm starting to get ready to plan my electronics install. I bought a garmin 18HD radar. I was thinking of mounting it on a pedestal. My question is, is that a good idea or should I just mount it right on the T-top. If I use a pedestal should shoult it be shimed on a forward tilt? Any recommendations on pedestal brands? Thanks

A mount will get you another 6-12 inches of installed height, which will probably help range a little, even with that very minimal RADAR unit. It will also get any small items (like GPS or WX receivers) mounted in close proximity at least mostly out of the beam.

It should be mounted to point slightly downward towards the front of the boat, regardless of whether you elevate it or not. The precise angle is not all that critical. Most folks use 4-degrees; but the idea is to approximately split the difference between the boat's on-plane and at-rest running angles. If you have to favor one or the other, it probably ought to be the on-plane angle (when running at dead idle, you're likely much less concerned about stuff two or three miles away than finding that buoy 300 yards off).

NJ Keith, we use this one a lot for installs, its a 2- piece, pedestal and universal top plate. There is light bar option also if need taller anchor light.
