Default Update garmin card or not

Yesterday I updated the software on my Garmin 4208, a free download, now the question.
I have a bluechart G2 "I think that is the name of it" Tampa to New Orleans and should I replace it? I fish the Big Bend area of the gulf and the chip is about 3 to 4 years old.
Any input would be appreciated.

If it's 4 years old, I would probably update it. On the other hand, I would compare the cost of the update with a new VISION card. You will get much more bang for you buck from the vision card.

I, for one, would not be comfortable with cartography which has not been updated in 3-4 years.

I suppose that depends on what you mean by "bank for your buck"; but in my book, it's the other way around.

A single "Bluechart g2" card https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=37703 provides coastal coverage for the entire U.S.A. plus the west coast of Canada, at an MSRP of $160.70.

To cover just the area I might consider "my cruising grounds" with "Bluechart g2 Vision" cards would require either one "Large" class https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=8806 with an MSRP of $428.56. or at least two (and MAYBE up to four) "Medium" class cards:

https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=35648
https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=8773
https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=8772
https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=8789

at an MSRP of $321.42 EACH.

Did anybodynget the free update more than 6 months after they bought it? Imwant to update my G2 vision card and it comes with 1 free upddate, but according to Garmin, must be updated within 6 months of purchase. That would have been bynthis past december. I forgot and boat was in storage and card was left in the unit.
