Default HELP! NSS8 networked or HDS 8 shared on two boats

I am adding a 8" screen as a stand alone unit on my flats boat and will be using structure scan. I already have a full Simrad NSE 12 setup on my center console. I do not want HDS touch. I was wondering if I should buy a HDS 8 and just leave it on the flats boat or buy a NSS8 and use a removable mount and move it back and forth between the two boats. I could use an extra screen on the center console and would like at some point to add structure scan to the other boat. I have no room to flush mount on either boat so the unit will be mounted on a stand alone bracket regardless. I am a little worried about communication issues between units if I put a NSS8 with a built in BSM-1 on my boat which already has a networked NSE12 and separate BSM-1.

My mind is made up with the Navico brands so not interested in Garmin Furuno etc. I LOVE my NSE12 and would add a NSE8 to the CC if that was all I was doing but seems to make sense I could save about $2k doing it this way. BTW, I actually like push buttons but would buy the NSS8 simply because it has a built in BSM-1 for when it is used on the flats boat. I really want structure scan for at least one boat (inshore).

Thanks for any advice!

Go NSS8, no issues with having several Navico sounder modules in one network. I've been running up to three sounder modules without any problems. You can choose which sounders to be transmitted on the network and which to be displayed from the menus.

You will love having the touch screen possibility to create waypoints and routes on your center console. With SW 2.5 NSS also has a much better fishfinder user interface in some respects than NSE.

I wonder though if the NSE and NSS compatibility will be more of an issue though because of the separate BSM-1 with the NSE and the integrated BSM-1 with the NSS8. I certainly dont want to hard program something if I am going to move the unit back and forth between a boat with no BSM-1 and one with a separate BSM-1.

Can you Network a HDS 8 gen 2 with a NSE12?

Don't worry about the networking, any HDS, NSE and NSS can be networked and will integrate despite whatever Navico support may say.

I have HDS G2 Touch + NSS8 - and they network perfectly and share Structure Scan and 4G Radar - HDS shares normal sonar on the network so it is visible from the NSS8.

But .. Maps haring does not work (1 chart chip) - if you had 2 NSS's then you only needed one map chip.

And Backlight sync does not work between them - and I have a problem where they are fighting about who should be the Power Master (Simrad/Lowrance has a yellow wire - that is the signal wire for turning accessors and other MFD on/off - just by turning the ON one of the MFD's - everything else turns on.)

The Lowrance HDS is significantly faster at updating display when I use overlay's than the NSS8. But the NSS8 has more finesse and elegance. The HDS Touch is the "Brute"... But I like them both.
