Default Deck light problem

I have an Edgewater center console and I have a problem with 1 deck light. I have 4 mounted above the rod holders (2 on each side) and below the gunnels. When I turn the lights off the light closest to the battery turns on and the other 3 turn off. When I turn the lights on, the problem light turns off and the others turn on. Being electrically "challenged" I wondering what is causing this.

I have the light apart and tightened the 2 wires, they weren't that loose.

Next I am going to remove the electric "contacts" and sand them, they need it.

I don't think any of this is the problem though, any ideas and is my cleaning them a good idea?

Should I try a bulb from a properly working light and see if the bulb is the problem.

Thanks in advance.

Sounds like a bad ground. Be sure all of the connections are clean on the bus bar as well as the bulb bases.

Have you always had this problem? And have you by any chance recently replaced or worked on the switch for those lights? What you are describing sounds exactly like a double throw switch with one light connected to the first throw and the other lights connected to the second throw.

As a matter of fact I did work on the switch. I added a horn. I have the manual out and have traced the wire from the light to the circuit breaker panel. It shows that the blue and blue andd white wire control the deck lights by the schematic and it is correct up until the back of the breaker. The blue solid wire was moved to another breaker. I am guessing they both should be on the same circuit breaker.

I did clean with sand paper all connections as directed by Mist-Rest.

Is my assumption right that they should both be on the same breaker?

Thanks for the help.
