Default Downscan question

I am thinking of adding downscan or getting a new HDS 7 Touch. Will the downscan work at speed? Say.... cruising at 25knots in the ocean?

With a well installed SS xducer you can hold bottom lock at speeds - but you won't get the structure imaging.

Interesting, I have a HDS 10 with the stock tranny and the SS tranny and can hold bottom at over 50mph. I made a video clip and put it on Youtube. User name tchoklat1

Yours is the one I believe I was remembering with respect to holding bottom at 50..... my point is you're not going to get nice pretty pictures of tree limbs and such, so the data you get off even the most perfect installation such as yours at those speeds is really not much more value than what you are going to read off your traditional xducer - StructureScan's value shines at speeds under 10 mph.

Now, I guess if the SideScan is able to mark fish/schools of fish (or even bait) 100+ft off the sides at those speeds then I'll take back the above as that could be very useful...... looked like you might have been marking some bait in the downscan or perhaps just clutter?

I tried the Lowrance Elite5 DSI on a SeaDoo PWC, and managed to pick up a baitball at 82kph. Please note that this is not normal practice, it was done purely to test the capabilities of the transducer.
