Default Northstar 6000i has intermittent issues with plugs.

Unit is a 2004 and I understand it is old technology but had it repaired by Outer Banks Electronics last year and have been happy with the performance of the GPS and fishfinder. This year every 5 th time I go out on startup it shows "No GPS" and the fishfinder shows green.I have replaced to cable fitting to the GPS antenna last year.To fix the current problem I pull out each plug from the back of the unit (Its flush mounted in an enclosed console),clean it with contact cleaner, and the unit works fine for a few more outings.Short of replacing the plugs is there a better way to keep this from happening? If the problem was internal in the unit I wouldn't think the plug cleaning would work.
