Default Garmin card reader gone bad

Anyone seen a card reader go bad in a 5, 6, or 7 series go bad?
Seems that's what's happened to my 6212. My new G2 Vision chip won't load (MFD doesn't recognize anything loaded).

Talked to Garmin. Confirmed via Mapsource that the chip is good....

Trying to get Garmin to replace, but catching some grief since its 2 months out of warranty.

Anyone have any tricks to try before I remove the unit (flush mounted) and try to return it?

Try using pencil eraser to clean contacts on card--maybe some oil or whatever got on contact to cause failure--

Do you get any error message at all ?? Will card read in a USB car reader? That might help point to which is bad--reader in plotter or card itself--

As stated above, the card is good. Can't get an eraser to the contacts on the unit itself.
