Default rpu80 on twin vee 22ft question

i picked up a bunch of gear prior to my last trip.
When i got down there i noticed that for the steering there are only 2 hydraulic pipers running back with other connectors at the rear. There is no expansion tank with the steering unit to connect the return line to.

Also, my steering on the boat sucks.Could this be due to not having an expansion tank?

Also, what the best lines to use for plumbing these lines for the AP pump.
I have to take it all with me down to the boat as its close to cabo- hour north

The small Sea Star units or Bay Star do not use an expansion tank. Some of the pressurized systems do have a tank. For example Hynautic has a reserve tank--not sure it is a true expansion tank, since it is under low pressure in reference to what the pressure generated in the steering system.

I have had back pressure in the Sea Star units spew hydraulic fluid out of the fill on the helm pump. This has been both with twins in reverse on a cat with the liquid tie bar system. Also when trailering, and the motor was centered, as it vibrated to one side, there was back pressure which pushed fluid out of the fill port.

Bail on the boat before it costs you any more money or sinks under you.
