Default lms525c df/Nauticpath??

I have a five year old Lowrance LMS 525C DF. Overall I like the unit, but one irksome thing has finally driven me nuts. I've always had issues viewing the map screens in back water areas with multiple creeks and junctions- meaning looking at my screen its hard to tell land from water. This makes it further difficult to acclimate as to where I'm at on the screen.

If I remove my nautipath chip suddenly I can tell land from water easily, but then I've lost all the depth contours, which makes navigating unknown areas more risky. I purchased the nauticpath card at the same time as my LMS unit. Curious if anyone knows if I should have formatted the nauticpath card to the unit somehow? Thanks in advance!

If there is a Navionics Gold chart covering your area, this will give you better contrast between land and water.

Got your PM. Thanks! Wish I'd inquired long ago. I'll let you know how things work out.
