Default Trouble with TR1 Gold AP

Took my boat out for the first trip of the season after installing a new through hull transducer and a pair of Simradd NSS units. Those all worked great.

While I was out decided to go through the annual ritual of calibrating the compass on the autopilot to make sure it's accurate. Everything worked fine here. Wired remote was responsive, lights blinked according to the manual, etc. Cranked up the throttle via the remote, worked fine. Then tried turning left using the remote, no response. Tried turning right, no response. Tried to navigate to waypoint, no response.

Everything appears to be connected on the kicker just fine.

This unit worked ok last year, I'm at a loss for where to start looking. Any ideas?

Yes, can hear (what I assume is the the pump) whining, and the reservoir has fluid.

If u push a couple buttons on the remote it'll tell u if u have gps signal. Did u just set north or did u calibrate the whole system where it does its zig zags? When u try to go to a way point do u just go straight or does it blink and beep at u and turn itself back off.

AP is connected to the 9.9 hp kicker. Did the compass calibration (turning in circles) using the Verado. Then turned the AP back on and tried to turn with the kicker using the left/right on the remote, no response at all (other than a whining noise coming from the control unit when either button was pushed down and the "Auto" light blinking while the button was held down). Tried navigating to waypoint, no steering corrections were being made by AP, I was not paying attention to the remote as far as lights blinking at that point.

Seems like the control unit is sending the commands, but the hydraulic cylinder is not working. I'm anticipating a problem with the pump, reservoir or cylinder.

Should set off the alarm or just blink at u if the pumps not working. Did u check all the dumb stuff like connections and power? Does that tr1 have the calibration where it zig zags? Mine did but it was the regular tr1. My pump was bad and it would just kick it back out.

Pulled and replaced all electrical connections to make sure they were properly seated. Unit has power, green light on control unit was on. Sounder showed 12+ volts, don't think it was a low voltage issue. Compass calibration for TR1 gold is going in circles while code is entered. Setting GPS North is navigating North while code is entered and waiting for unit to decide if it is getting GPS North from plotter or if it wants to use the compass ball for North.

Just posting a follow up. I contacted Garmin, worked with their tech's who diagnosed it as a bad hydraulic pump. Pulled the pump, sent it to them and within a few days I had a replacement at no charge. Unit is working fine now. Kudo's to Garmin's customer service!
