Default Simrad NSS7/HDS7 Gen2 Questions

I'm upgrading my 7 year old Garmin sounder/GPS combo unit this spring with either a Simrad NSS7 or HDS7 Gen2, with Structure Scan.

I've been hearing great things about both units, but before I make a decision, I'd like to know the main differences between each unit. I've done a lot of research online and stopped by a few stores asking questions, but the information I've found is conflicting. Some say the only difference between the units is the touch screen technology and interface of the NSS, but the processor, screen quality, etc are the same. Is this true? Also, I heard that the NSS doesn't have Structure Mapping??

I'm also questioning how to set up the transducers. I have a Robalo R227 with an outboard, and I'm concerned that the Structure Scan transom mount transducer beam will interfere with the outboard. The transom is flat, the outboard is tucked against the transom. Everyone I've spoken to has a different answer. Some people say I only need one Structure Scan transom mount transducer, others say I need one on each side of the outboard connected by a Y cable. One guy told me I need 2 thru hull transducers even though I trailer the boat, but I doubt that is a correct assumption.

Any insights would be appreciated.

Except the touch screen the difference between NSS and HDS Gen 2 is Autopilot control and sharing of maps between units for NSS. As of today only HDS Gen2 supports StructureMap, there is a very high probability next software release for NSS will include StructureMap.

If you plan to use StructureMap for HDS-7 make sure you go for a model with pre-loaded charts so the SD slot is available for SructureMap data.
