Default Garmin VHF?

Is the VHF plug and play or do you need to connect to nmea 2000?

Connection to the chart plotter by the ethernet cable. My top box is not connected to nmea. It is connected to the lower GPS by ethernet cable and the lower gps is connected to nmea. I have a total of 3 Garmin GPS screens all connected. This is why I'm concidering changing out my VHF.

I do not think it is Ethernet compatible. Garmin and Lowrance make NMEA2000 VHF's all others are NMEA0183. Standard Horizon Makes a Radio with internal GPS so you don't need to hook it up to anything. If you already have the NEMA down below you could just run the cable to a T-connector in the console where your network is.
