Default HDS compatabilty questions

I have an 18 foot skiff with an F150 and am interested in a HDS 8. I do a LOT of bottom fishing and think the structure scan would be awesome and I am a working man on a budget.

1) Can I adapt my current 600w thru hull for my Furuno to an HDS unit?

2) Is there a way to mount a Structure Scan as a thru hull?

3) How hard is it to get engine data to the HDS 8?

Thanks!

Yes, there is a through hull transducer available for Structure Scan, but on an 18' skiff, why not just transom mount it?

That depends on what year your F150 was made. Since 2006 or so, all it takes is a cable adapter to the NMEA 2000 network and you can get all kinds of engine data.

Maybe SemperFi or others can answer #1 - may help to identify which specific xducer.

On #2 - Lowrance offers a thru-hull version of the StructureScan xducer, as well as a split xducer for boats with deep-V's.

For #3 - easy, if your motor has a NMEA2K interface / connector at the engine - can be as simple as a cable from the motor to the Lowrance.

If you have a B60 mix and match transducer this will work with Lowrance. Just replace the Furuno cable with a Lowrance mix and match cable. If you have another type of 600W transducer you will have cut the cable and splice on a Lowrance connector.

By boat is the worlds biggest 18 foot boat. It has an enclosed transome with a line and there is no easy way to do a transom mount. There is a cable chase to the bilge where my Furuno thru hull. It is super ez to get to.

easy, if your motor has a NMEA2K interface / connector at the engine - can be as simple as a cable from the motor to the Lowrance.
My motor has the Command link so thats a go. I will have to look into my transducer, cant remember the model number.

Thanks everyone!

Does anyone know what the LSS-2 stuff is on the navico website? I found it by searching.
