Default How to save waypoints from Furuno 1850?

I did a search on this and found about 6 different answers, some of which conflicted and I thought someone might have some new ideas, I am getting ready to sell my boat with my Furuno 1850 and would like to save the waypoints from the unit. It uses a Navionics chip. What is the best way to save these either to a computer or just a chip and then later download onto a computer or onto another unit?
Thanks.

You can save to a chip, but unless you buy a machine that uses the same format, you may have trouble uploading the data. Many of the older chips (Navionics in particular) can not be read with an external reader. The best way is to download to a computer, then save the file. When you get your new machine, you may have to manipulate the file extension, but you ought to be able to figure it out and upload to your new machine.

Thanks for the reply Dogfather. Looks like I need to get a cord that goes from the Furuno to a laptop. Thanks.
