Default Icom m502/Garmin 441s

Guys I don't currently have a dsc capable VHF on my boat. A guy has an Icom m502 in parts forum. I will not go offshore but a handful of times but would like this added comfort. Will it hook up to my garmin 441s. Is it a safe move buying a used VHF? Is the connection a do it yourself job? Also is it a pain to swap out when I upgrade my GPS?

Yes, your 441s will work with the Icom. It will connect using the NMEA 0183 output from the 441. If the VHF works it's probably a safe bet. If you swap out your GPS, moving the radio to the new GPS is not a big deal.

The 502 is not a class D DSC radio. It is not legal to install a non class D DSC radio as of March of last year. The 502 was a problematic radio anyway. Do yourself a favor and get a modern class D VHF.
