Default Truth? VHF and AM/FM antenna cable shortening

I like to pride myself on my electronics installs. I go crazy with wire ties, wire labels and cable managers.

My question is about the current cables for my VHF and AM/FM radio. I have them rolled and tied full length (approximately 15ft). My ebox pictured above is only a foot or two from the ebox.

Seriously, can I cut these darn cables to a reasonable length maybe 3 foot instead of 15 without compromising signal quality? Then solder on new connector?

ThanX,

Dave

Antennae wire can be cut and a new connector installed .

Icom says, "shorter cable to the antenna is better."

I just installed a Shakespeare VHF antenna and the instructions said to keep a minimum of 3 ft of cable from the base of the antenna.
